Tommy's Clubhouse - Book #1 Fig Street Kids Series
Our youngest son is the same age as Tommy and his friends in the book Tommy’s Clubhouse by Sharon Hambrick, so I thought this would be a good book to read. We are very picky about the books that we give to our children to read, so I was concerned when I saw the cover of the book. On the front of ‘the clubhouse’ are the words “Boys are great, and girls are not” – in our house, words like that are not allowed.
Cautiously, I began to read. Tommy talks and behaves like a typical seven year old boy that is in the second grade. He lives with his sister, Penny; and of course, their dad and mom. His best friends are Howie and Zack. Everyday the “Boys Are Great Club” meets in Tommy’s backyard clubhouse.
I am not going to tell you what happens in the book. I will tell you that I read the complete book in about an hour. The more that I read, the more I was impressed by how Sharon Hambrick so clearly understands little boys and their thoughts and actions. Tommy is an obedient boy, that has been guided by parents that love him and have trained him well.
